Sudan’s Al Hilal fail to make CAF Champions League knock out stage

Al Hilal have failed to make it to the knock out stage of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

The Sudan Premier League side needed to defeat reigning champions Al Ahly, but lost 1-0 last night in a Group A match played in Cairo, Egypt/

Hussein El Shahat came off the bench to score the lone goal for Al Ahly. Al Hilal joined another Sudan team Al Merreikh who also lost their last match 3-0 away to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

João Mota, the Al Hilal head coach said his players created scoring opportunities, but failed to score. “We tried to play a good game today, but did not take our chances and got punished,” added Mota.

Mamelodi Sundowns, the 2016 champions topped the group with 16 points, while Al Ahly finished second with 10 points.

The other teams that have qualified for the quarter final stage include; Raja Casablanca, ES Setif, Espérance de Tunis, CR Belouizdad, Wydad Casablanca and Petro de Luanda.
