Somalia’s football legend Abdulkadir Mohamed Farah succumbs to COVID-19

Somalia’s football legend Abdulkadir Mohamed Farah has succumbed to the Coronavirus (COVID -19). The Somali Football Federation (SFF) confirmed the development on Tuesday saying the legend died at the North West London Hospital.

SFF said Mohamed Farah who in recent years served as an advisor to the minister for youth and sport had been admitted last week after testing positive to the virus.

Abdiqani Said Arab, Somali Football Federation President, Abdiqani Said Arab expressed deep shock over the death of the football legend and sent a condolence message to the late legend’s family, friends and to the entire Somali football family.

Mohamed Farah was born on February 15th, 1961 in the city of Beledweyne, 342 kilometres north of the capital Mogadishu. His football career dates back to 1976 when he first appeared in the national schools football tournament.

He was then promoted to regional level representing his home Hiiraan region in the 1979 regional football tournament. The regional tournament became a platform for him to showcase his talent and from there he was recruited by Batroolka Football Club where he played till the late 1980s.

Starting today the SFF announced three days of mourning for the legend.
