Somalia announce Pieter de Jongh as new head coach
The Somali Football Federation (SFF) has announced Dutchman Hendrik Pieter de Jongh as the new national team head coach.
Pieter de Jongh who has handled teams in Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Hungary, Moldova and Eswatini among others was unveiled on Sunday in Mogadishu.
“We are happy to start a new chapter with a new coach who has signed a contract for one year,” Yusuf Ahmed, the SFF Secretary general told Cecafaonline.com
The new coach is expected to start work this week to call up a team that will start preparations ahead of preliminary round qualifiers of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next month. Somalia will face Eswatini in the preliminary round of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
In June last year SFF has sacked its Belgo-Moroccan coach Abdellatif Salef after less than three weeks in charge of the team.
Salef was sacked for what SFF said was because of of gross indiscipline and lack of professionalism.
