Sixteen teams set for explosive 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup
The 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup to be held in Rwanda July 6-21st promises to be explosive.
A record 16 teams including African giants TP Mazembe from the Democratic of Congo and Zambia’s Green Buffaloes FC will spice up the tournament.
On Friday during a presser in Kigali, the CECAFA Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye said they expect a very competitive tournament. Former African champions TP Mazembe have been grouped alongside Atlabara FC (South Sudan), KMC FC (Tanzania) and Rwanda’s Rayon Sport FC in Group A.
“CECAFA takes this opportunity to thank our Patron HE President Paul Kagame and the people of Rwanda for standing with us for the last 20 years . We also express our gratitude to HE the President for enabling Rwanda to have enough infrastructure to host a tournament of this magnitude,” said Musonye.
He made it clear that CECAFA also recognizes the efforts of President Kagame in creating a peaceful environment within the region that has seen clubs from Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia take part in this special competition.
“We appeal to the people of Rwanda to come and support the competition which has stood the test of time through the benevolent support of HE and the people of Rwanda in general,” added the CECAFA Secretary general.
Musonye said CECAFA and the Rwanda FA (FERWAFA) are putting everything in place to ensure that the tournament is well organized to befit the occasion. “We also wish to thank Azam TV and the Government of Rwanda for supporting the event,” he added.
All matches will be played in the towns of Kigali, Huye and Rubavu with the best two in each group qualifying for the quarter finals
GROUP A: Rayon Sports (Rwanda), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), KMC (Tanzania), Atlabara (South Sudan) – Kigali
GROUP B: Azam (Tanzania) Mukura Victiory (Rwanda), Bandari (Kenya), KCCA FC (Uganda) – Huye
GROUP C: APR (Rwanda), Green Buffaloes (Zambia), Proline (Uganda), Heegan (Somalia) – Kigali
GROUP D: Gor Mahia (Kenya), DC Motema Pembe (DR Congo), KMKM ( Zanzibar), AS Ports (Djibouti) – Rubavu.
