Tanzania Premier League side, Simba SC silenced hosts Primeiro de Agosto 3-1 in the first leg of the preliminary second round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Zambian international Clatous Chama gave Simba SC the lead after 8 minutes at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, Angola on Sunday evening.

The hosts tried to recover and intensified their attacks, but failed to find a goal in the 45 minutes.

After recess it was Isreal Mwenda who made it 2-0 for Simba, and Moses Phiri added the third 13 minutes later. Dago Samu Tshibamba pulled a goal back for Primeiro de Agosto coming from a penalty after 78 minutes.

“I am happy the players responded well and we got a good result. The job is not done yet as we need to get another good result in Dar es Salaam on Sunday to qualify for the group stage,” said Juma Mgunda, Simba SC’s caretaker head coach.

In the other match played by a team from the CECAFA region, Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre lost 1-0 to Zamalek in a match played in Egypt. Hossam Abdulmaguid netted the lone goal for the Egyptian Premier League champions.

Five time African champions TP Mazembe also earned a goalless draw away to Uganda’s Vipers SC in a match played at the St.Marys Stadium in Kitende.
