Tanzania Premier League side, Simba SC are out of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Simba SC lost in penalties 4-3 to hosts Wydad AC in the return match of the quarter final played at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Friday night.

After Simba SC winning the first leg 1-0 last weekend in Dar es Salaam, the Moroccan giants needed a clear win by more than two goals to qualifying for the semi final stage.

It was Bouly Junior Sambou who put Wydad AC ahead with a well timed header after 32 minutes that the Simba SC goalkeeper Ally Khatoro tried to tap, but failed to put it far away.

In the second half the hosts created several chances, but the Simba SC defense manned by Kenyan International Joash Onyango and Shomari Kapombe stood firm. Saidi Ntibazonkiza had his chance miss the target for the Tanzanian giants.

After a 1-1 draw on aggregate, the match was decided by penalties. Wydad AC goalkeeper Youssef El Motie ensured the reigning champions made it to the next round when he saved Kapombe and Clatous Chota Chama’s penalty kicks.

Wydad AC had Yahya Jabrane, Ayoub El Amloud, Amine Aboulfath and Abdellah Haimoud all convert, while Erasto Edward Nyoni and Ntibazonkiza also converted for Simba SC.

It was all celebration for the Wydad AC team after the end of the explosive encounter.

Wydad AC will face the winer between CR Belouizdad (Algeria) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) at the semi final stage, while the winner between JS Kabylie (Algeria) and Tunisia’s Espérance de Tunis will battle the winner between Al Ahly (Egypt) and Raja Casablanca (Morocco) in the second semi final clash.
