Simba SC stop defending champs Wydad AC in quarter final first leg

_{Tanzania Premier League side, Simba Sports Club have stopped Wydad AC 1-0 in the first leg of the 2022-2023 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League quarter final match played in Dar es salaam on Saturday.}

_{Jean Bakele Othos capitalized on poor clearance by the Wydad AC defenders to score the lone goal after 30 minutes at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.}

_{The home side with a lot of motivation after stopping their arch rivals Young Africans SC last weekend in the local derby came into the match determined to make home advantage count.}

_{On the wet surface Simba SC looked very comfortable as they dominated play with the Moroccan champions on the back-foot. Clatous Chama,  Saidi Ntibazonkiza and defender Shomari Kapombe also missed some good chances.}

_{Zouhair El Moutaraji had a chance to score and help Wydad pick a draw, but his close shot with two minutes left missed the target.}

_{“We are happy to win the first leg. But we must continue working hard to prepare for the return leg in Morocco,” said Simba SC head coach Roberto Oliveira.}

_{His counterpart Juan Carlos Garrido, the Wydad AC coach said although the playing surface did not favour them, they will make sure they they win the return leg and qualify for the semi finals.}

_{The two teams will clash in the return leg next weekend in Casablanca, Morocco. Simba SC have never qualified for the semi final stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and will be determined to make history.}
