The head coach of Simba SC Roberto Oliviera has said he is delighted with the first win the team registered in Group C of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Simba SC, the Tanzanian Premier League side defeated hosts Vipers SC 1-0 in a match played at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende on Saturday night.

Defender Henock Inonga Baka netted the lone goal for the visiting side after 20 minutes to silence the home fans. The home side also had some chances, although Simba SC were more dominant.

“I thank the players for the job well done because we came to Uganda to pick three points and we achieved that mission. It was not an easy match to play Vipers at their home,” added coach Oliviera.

Simba SC started the campaign with a 1-0 defeat away to Guinea’s Horoya AC, and suffered a 3-0 loss to Raja Casablanca (Morocco) in Dar es Salaam a week ago. But the new coach Oliviera says after the wake up call of two defeats, his team is starting to play the kind of football he wants.

“We need to plan and prepare better for the next match against Vipers SC when we host them in Dar es Salaam. Every match is now like a final for us,” added the Brazilian.

Simba SC now moved to third place in Group C with 3 points, while Vipers Sc are bottom with 1 point. Raja Casablanca who stopped Horoya AC 2-0 on Saturday to maintain their winning run lead the group with 9 points, while the Guinean side is second with 4 points.
