Simba SC, Al Hilal pick vital wins in TotalEnergies CAF Champions League

Two teams representing the CECAFA Zone Simba SC and Al Hilal have registered important wins to brighten their hopes of making it to the quarter final stage of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Zambian International Clatous Chama netted at the stroke of half time to help Tanzania Premier League side edge Vipers SC (Uganda) 1-0 in a Group C match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es salaam.

The win for Simba takes them to second place in the group with 6 points, while Raja Casablanca who defeated AC Horoya in Guinea 3-1 are top with 12 points and have already booked a place in the quarter finals.

Roberto Oliveira, the Simba SC Brazilian coach thanked his team for collecting three points in a match against his former team. “It was not an easy match against a strong Vipers team, but I thank my players for remaining focused and picked the three points,” said Oliveira.

Sudan Premier League reigning champions Al Hilal also collected a 2-0 win at home to Coton Sport in a Group B match played in Khartoum. David Abagna gave Al Hilal the lead after 41 minutes, and DR Congo International Makabi Lilepo made it 2-0 with a penalty converted after 83 minutes.

The win sends coach Florent Ibenge’s team top of Group B with 9 points from four matches, while Mamelodi Sundowns who hosts Al Ahly this weekend are second on 7 points.

Later tonight another Sudan Premier League side Al Merriekh will face CR Belouizdad in a Group D match in Algeria.
