She-Amavubi out of Cecafa women’s cup after losing to Ethiopia

The Rwandan women’s national football team better known as She-Amavubi,
are unseated from the 2016 CECAFA women’s championship as they fell to
Ethiopia 3-2 in their last group B match on Wednesday.

Losa Abera gave the Ethiopian women a very early lead by netting the first
goal in the 3rd minute before she scored her second goal in the 63rd
minute, while Meskerem Kanko bagged a goal in the 70th minute.

The Rwandans themselves fought hard to secure two goals in the 44th and in
the 69th minutes of the match. The goals were scored by Mukeshimana
Dorothee and Nibagwire Sifa Gloria.

With Wednesday’s defeat, She-Amavubi booked their tickets back to Kigali,
as the Ethiopian women advanced to the semi-finals. Others who already
qualified for the semis are: Kenya and Tanzania, while either Uganda or
Burundi will station in the last four stage line-up after their clash on
Thursday afternoon.

She-Amavubi’s head coach, Nyinawumuntu Marie Grace, told the media that
the tournament was a lesson-taking experience for her side and hey will
re-correct everything which went wrong during the competition.

“We are not happy because we lost two consecutive matches, but even though
we are out we have learned more from the event and we will prepare well
for next year’s competition” Nyinawumuntu Marie Grace, told the media.

“I now know the level of my girls and as well as the level of other teams,
I noted the weak points of my players and I will correct all mistakes we
did before jetting to future competitions” she added.

On her side, Mezeret Manni of Ethiopia, one of the most wonderful female
coaches in the CECAFA region said in a post match press conference that
Wednesday’s match against Rwanda was a starting point for her side.

“It was a good match. We played short passes, but we also did some
mistakes from which we learned to help us prepare well for other matches
ahead. We want to improve from where we are now to make sure that we
defeat Tanzania when we meet on Friday” Mezeret Manni told the media.
