It is D-Day as the semi finals of TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League 2022 qualifier for the CECAFA Zone take centre stage today at the Azam Complex, Chamazi in Tanzania.

After a whole week of action in the group stages between the eight teams with a total of 58 goals scored, the best four teams will battle this afternoon go out to prove yet again that they have what it takes to make it to the final.

In-form Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC (CBE) will face She Corporate FC (Uganda) in the first semi-final, while home side Simba Queens FC will take to the field against AS Kigali WFC later.

Heye Gizaw Birhanu, the CBE head coach told Cecafaonline that playing in the knockout stage needs a different game plan and his team is ready for the challenge. “We must respect any team that gets to the semi final stage. It will be very important for my players to take their chances at goal and also defend well as a team,” added Birhanu.

The tournament’s leading scorers Geinore Loza Abera and Medina Awol Busser with nine and six goals respectively will lead the CBE hunt for goals, while Phiona Nabbumba and Favour Danielita Nambatya who between them have netted nine goals for the Ugandan team will hope to find goals when it matters most.

But the She Corporate coach Charles Lukula Ayeikoh has maintained that his player will have to be very disciplined against the CBE team that hold the ball a lot. “This is a knock out stage and we have a chance to make it to the final,” added Ayeikoh.

For Simba Queens who failed to go past the semi final stage last year, they will hope that home support can also play a part to see them go past the hurdle. “We won all our three matches in the group stage without conceding a goal. It will be a different Simba Queens at the semi final stage,” warned Simba Queens coach Sebastian Leonard Nkoma.

Asha Djafari, Burundi’s national team skipper, Barakat Kikelomo Olaiya and Vivian Aquino Carozone who have all netted two goals each will be eager to knock in more goals that will secure a place in the final for Simba Queens.

Striker Zawadi Usanase who has netted five goals already will be the key player to watch for the AS Kigali WFC side as they seek to write their won history. Hamissi Sogonya, the AS Kigali WFC head coach says that although they are the underdogs, his players are determined to prove a point.
