Raila Odinga visits Kenya team in Cairo ahead of AFCON
Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga on Thursday visited the Harambee Stars team in Cairo ahead of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kick-off.
“We are confident that Kenya has a strong team that will do well in the AFCON,” said Raila during the visit at the Tiba Rose Hotel.
The 2019 AFCON kicks-off on Friday with hosts Egypt facing Zimbabwe. Harambee Stars are pooled alongside Algeria, Senegal and Tanzania in Group C which will play at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.
Raila was accompanied by Devolution SC Eugene Wamalwa and Kenya Ambassador to Egypt Joff Otieno. Kenya head coach coach Sebastien Migne said they are ready to do their best in the tournament.
“We have had adequate preparations for the tournament. I want to thank Government for fully supporting us and we are confident that we will replicate this support with positive results on the pitch,” said team Captain Victor Wanyama who also thanked Raila for coming to give morale support.
Uganda Cranes, Tanzania and Burundi are the other teams from the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) region that qualified to play at the 2019 AFCON.
