Young Africans SC have maintained their winning home run in the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation group stage.

The Tanzania Premier League reigning champions defeated visiting As Real De Bamako 2-0 in a Group D match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday night.

Leading scorer Fiston Kalala Mayele scored early after 8 minutes to send the Young Africans SC supporters into celebrations. The visitor tried to fight back to get some goals, but failed to break through the Young Africans defending line.

After recess Ducapel Moloko made it 2-0 for Young Africans SC after 68 minutes. The home side continued pushing forward in search of more goals but settled for a 2-0 win.

Nasreddine Nabi, the Young Africans SC head coach said he was happy with the hunger the team showed on the pitch. “After drawing with the same team few days ago, I am happy that today my players worked hard to get a win,” said Nabi.

The win sees Young Africans SC maintain their second place on the table with 7 points, while Tunisia’s US Monastir who defeated TP Mazembe (DR Congo) 1-0 in another match played on Wednesday are top with 10 points.

Young Africans SC will next week host US Monastir, and will complete their group stage campaign with an away match against TP Mazembe.
