Luvanga guides Tanzania past Burundi
Striker Clara Luvanga netted a brace to help Tanzania defeat hosts Burundi 4-0 in the first leg of the third round in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier.
Luvanga gave Serengeti Girls the lead after 32 minutes in a match played on Saturday at the Urukundo Stadium in Ngozi.
The hosts tried to reorganize, but failed to break through the Tanzanian defending line.
After recess Florentina Fulgence made it 2-0 after 49 minutes, before Luvanga got her second on the day. With two minutes to full time Husna Mpanja also got her name on the score sheet.
In the other matches played yesterday Ghana picked a 3-1 away win in Guinea, while Morocco humbled hosts Niger 11-0.
On Friday another CECAFA team Ethiopia stopped hosts South Africa 3-0. The best three teams in Africa will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be played in India.
