Kenya’s team has extended their lead in Group A at the on-going Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup after a picking a comfortable 4-0 win over Sudan in a game played on Sunday at the Asmara National Stadium, Eritrea.

In-form Kelvin Wangaya Injehu gave Kenya the lead after 12 minutes with a low drive past Sudan’s goalkeeper Hehad Mokhtar Eisa Omer.

The Sudan team tried to fight back to level matters but Hassan Hashim Kodi Komi shot wide after 20 minutes. Injehu scored his second of the day after 27 minutes when he capitalized on a defensive mix-up by Sudan.

After 27 minutes Joseph Odera Munala with a solo run netted Kenya’s third goal.

In the second half Sudan’s coach Mohamed Musa made some changes, but his team still lacked the impact going forward.

Gil Harel scored Kenya’s fourth goal with another hard shot past the Sudan goalkeeper Omer. Substitute Alsadig Salah Mohamed Thani for Sudan had his well taken shot saved by Kenya’s goalkeeper Alvin Lwangu Odari after 78 minutes.

The win sees Kenya maintain the lead in Group A with six points after they also stopped Somalia 3-1 in their opening match on Friday. Somalia was facing Burundi in the second Group A match this afternoon. Kenya’s coach Sagar Lakhani said he was glad his team did not concede against Sudan.

” We have fielded young boys who have no experience. But we believe this tournament will help them get the exposure,” said Sudan’s coach Mohamaed Musa.

The tournament supported by FIFA will see the best two teams in the two groups qualify for the semi finals.
