Kawempe Muslim Ladies to represent Uganda in CAF Women Champions League qualifiers

Kawempe Muslim Ladies will represent Uganda in the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifiers after they bagged the FUFA Women’s League title.

The Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC side defeated former champions and arch-rivals Kampala Queens 2-0 in a do-or-die encounter on Sunday at the Kawempe Muslim Valley Ground.

After a goalless first half, the hosts returned determined to take maximum points when Agnes Nabukenya gave them the lead from a well taken free-kick after 67 minutes.

Substitute Allen Nassaazi increased Kawempe Muslim Ladies’ lead with a well timed deader past Kampala Queens goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro.

The vital win saw Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC finish with 40 points, while their rivals and last year champions Kampala Queens ended with 36 points.

Ayub Khalifan, the Kawempe Muslim Ladies coach said he was happy with the hard work which has seen them lift the trophy. ” This has been a very tough season and am glad we have lifted the trophy, ” added the coach.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies also had Agnes Nabukenya scoop the Most Valuable Player and top scorer’s Awards, and Juliet Adeke the best goalkeeper. Makerere University WFC’s Sharon Namatovu was joint top scorer at 10 goals together with Nabukenya, while She Maroons FC bagged the Fair Play Award.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies will now represent Uganda in the Zonal CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers which will take place in Ethiopia.
