Kalaba helps TP Mazembe humble South Sudan’s Atlabara FC
Zambian International Rainford Kalaba netted a brace to help TP Mazembe humble Atlabara FC 6-1 on Saturday.
The Group A match on the on-going CECAFA Kagame Club Championship was played at the Kigali Stadium.
TP Mazembe picked an early lead through Jackson Muleka after only 3 minutes before Atlabara’s Philip Obeyond made it 1-1 in the 5th minute. Christian Kouame scored the second to make sure the Democratic Republic of Congo took a 2-1 half time lead.
After 47 minutes Glody Lokonza increased TP Mazembe’s lead before Muleka netted his second. With the South Sudan Premier League champions failing to defend well, Kalaba also got his name on the score sheet with two goals.
In the second Group A game Tanzania’s KMC FC shocked Rwanda’s Rayon Sports FC 1-0 with Hassan Kabunda scoring the lone goal after 36 minutes. Both TP Mazembe and Rayon Sports FC qualified for the quarter final stage.
Rayon Sports FC will face Uganda’s KCCA FC at the quarter final stage, while TP Mazembe face defending champions Azam FC. The Ugandan champions KCCA FC completed their Group B matches on Friday with a 2-1 win over Mukura FC.
APR FC (Rwanda), Green Eagles FC (Zambia) and Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC are the other teams to make it to the last eight. The the last spot will be decided on Sunday after two Group D matches have been played at the Umuganda Stadium.
The tournament partly sponsored by Rwanda President, Paul Kagame will see the champions pocket US$30,000, while the runners-up take US$20,000 and the third placed US$10,000.
