AFCON U-17 qualifiers
Ethiopia draw Eritrea in U-17 AFCON Zonal qualifiers
The hosts Ethiopia have been drawn to face Eritrea in Group A of the U-17 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 qualifiers for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region.
In the draw conducted on Thursday by the CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo, Ethiopia have been placed alongside Eritrea, Tanzania, Somalia and South Sudan.
The qualifiers will take place between September 30th to October 19th, 2022 at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Uganda who are the defending champions after lifting the trophy in 2020 in Rwanda have been placed in Group B alongside Djibouti, Rwanda, Sudan and Burundi
The best two teams from each group will qualify for the semi finals. The winners and runners-up will qualify to represent the region in the U-17 AFCON 2023 in Algeria.
“We look forward to having a very successful tournament in Ethiopia,” said the CECAFA Executive Director Gecheo.
