Hard fighting Gor Mahia lose to Azam in CECAFA Cup final
Kenya’s representative in CECAFA Kagame Cup, Gor Mahia, lost 2-0 in the final of the tournament played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
Gor Mahia had hopes of winning the trophy they last won 30 years ago but their dreams were cut shot with John Bocco’s 16th minute strike and Kipre Tche Tche’s shot in the 65th minute.
The win has seen Azam, which has now won the cup for the first time, complete the tournament without conceding a single goal whilst ending Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run in the tournament this year.
Gor Mahia reached the finals after beating Khartoum of Sudan 3-1 while Azam edged out KCCA of Uganda 1-0 to book their spot in the final match.
Alongside the trophy and winners’ medals, Azam will carry home $30,000 while Gor Mahia will return to Kenya with $20,000 (Sh2 million).
In the other match played at the same venue on Sunday, KCCA of Uganda beat Al Khartoum National FC of Sudan 2-1 in third place play-off to home $10,000.
