GOR Mahia lost 0-1 to Burundi’s Atletico Olympique at Nyamirambo on Monday and in statistics and form looked like one of two teams in Group ‘B’ which will be eliminated from proceeding to the quarter finals of the Cecafa Kagame Cup.

Bobby Williamson the Gor coach was a visibly frustrated and angry man saying the players were not giving their best.

No fight

“They’ve got to motivate themselves,” he said.

“Chances come, we don’t take them. We should have won this game in the first half.”

The Kenyans are the only winless team in the group, the pole position being contested by APR (Rwanda), Telecom (Djibouti), KCCA of Uganda and Atletico.

Back on course

Sudan giants, El Merreikh, surprisingly beaten 1-0 on Saturday by Police of Rwanda put back their campaign on course by thrashing Banadir of Somalia 4-0 in the 1pm start.

In the final match of the day, champions Vital’ O of Burundi and Police were contesting the right to top the Group ‘C’ table after wins by both teams their opening matches.

Screamer

After 40 minutes they were 1-1 Jerome Sina having fired Police into a 30th minute lead which Shaban Hussein’s header cancelled in the 38th minute.

But, in added time of the first half, Police took the lead with a brilliantly headed goal by Jacques Tuyisenge  from a corner; a thrilling 2-1 lead for the debutant Police at the break.

Police continued being lethal in an extremely thrilling half under splendid Nyamirambo floodlights. From a free-kick set piece another brilliant header by Jimmy Mbaraga made it 3-1 and making it look  like a runaway win for Police despite a stout fight-back by the defending champions.

Only two of the four teams will proceed to the quarter finals and clearly one will include one of the three reputed teams — Vital’O, El Merreikh and Police — in the group. The other team in the pool is Banadir, already a sure candidate for the exit.
