Ethiopia, Tanzania book third round slots

CECAFA tams Ethiopia and Tanzania have qualified for the third round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Ethiopia ejected Uganda, while Tanzania saw-off Botswana in the second leg matches played yesterday.

The Ethiopian battled from a goal down to hold Uganda 1-1 at Abebe Bikila Stadium to qualify on an away goals rule since the first leg ended 2-2 in Kampala.

Shakira Nyinagahirwa scored for Uganda after 34 minutes, but Eyerusalem Wondemu leveled matters two minutes to full time.

Tanzania also made sure they brushed Botswana 4-0 in an away game played at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium Francistown.

Neema Paul gave Tanzania the lead after 32 minutes, before Clara Luvanga netted a second half hat-trick. Tanzania qualified on an 11-0 goal aggregate.

While Tanzania will now face another CECAFA team Burundi in the next round, Ethiopia will battle South Africa. The other teams that will play in round three include; Cameroon, Zambia, Egypt, Nigeria, Liberia, Ghana, Niger and Morocco.
