Ethiopia request to host 2020 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship
The Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) has requested to host the 2020 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship. Originally Tanzania had won the bid to host the regional tournament which brings together the top teams in the CECAFA region.
Esayas Jira, President of the EFF and Second Vice President of CECAFA says they have requested the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to allow them host the Kagame Cup.
“It is unfortunate we did not apply to host any tournament during the CECAFA General Assembly in Uganda, but we now feel ready to host one tournament on the CECAFA calendar,” added Jira.
The new CECAFA Executive headed by newly elected President Wallace Karia is expected to meet before the end of the month to deliberate on several issues and also decide if the Kagame Cup can be hosted by Ethiopia.
The other eight tournaments that the CECAFA region will host in 2020 include; CECAFA U-16 Boys Challenge Cup (Djibouti), CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup and the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup (Burundi) and the CECAFA U-20 Women’s Challenge Cup will take place in Uganda.
Rwanda will host the Afcon U-17 Zonal qualifiers and the CECAFA Women’s Challenge, while Sudan host the Afcon U-20 Zonal qualifiers and the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
