Ethiopia host Uganda Cranes in Bahir Dar

Ethiopia will host Uganda Cranes in an international friendly match today at the Bahir Dar International Stadium.

The hosts played to a goalless draw against 10-man Sierra Leone national team in an earlier friendly match played on Friday at the same venue.

Wubetu Abate, head coach of Ethiopia’s national team told Cecafaonline that the two friendly matches will help his assess and prepare his team better ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers next month.

“These are very timely matches for the technical bench and we are happy that we have the chance to play two friendly matches,” added the coach.

Ethiopia are preparing for matches in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana, while Uganda Cranes will face Kenya and Mali. The Walias of Ethiopia together with Sudan are also the two teams from the CECAFA region that qualified for the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Milutin Micho Sredojevic who was appointed Uganda Cranes coach last month said the friendly match comes at the right time for his team that has been training for two weeks now. “This match will help us assess several aspects before we travel to face Kenya,” added Sredojevic.

On Saturday the Uganda Cranes beat Ethiopian Premier League side Fasil Kenema 1-0 in a practice match played in Bahir Dar.
