Eritrea’s Suleiman Ibrahim celebrates CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup top scorers Award

The top scorer at the just concluded CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup, Ali Suleiman Ibrahim has said the Award will motivate him more to keep improving.

“This Award means a lot to me and I am really celebrating it. I know I have been able to achieve this with the help of the whole team,” said the striker.

Suleiman Ibrahim won the tournaments top scorer’s Award with four goals and helped Eritrea finish 6th. Interestingly he netted all the goals against Ethiopia. He scored a hat-trick in the 3-3 draw in the group stage and in the 1-1 classification game that Eritrea eventually won 3-2 in penalty shootouts.

“I want to than CECAFA for organizing this tournament which has helped us players in the region to get more exposure,” added the striker who has also signed a two year contract with Ethiopian Premier League side, Bahir Dar Kenema FC.

Kenya’s Paul Regan Otieno finished the tournament with three goals, while players who netted two goals include; Abubeker Nasir Ahmed (Ethiopia), Issa Hakizimana (Burundi), Benson Oluoch Ochieng (Kenya), Najib Yiga and Steven Mukwala (Uganda).
Ethiopia’s Abubeker Nasir Ahmed was voted Best player, Burundi’s Onesime Rukundo best goalkeeper, while Kenya won the Fair Play Award.
