Egyptian referee for CECAFA Women’s Champions League

Egypt’s top female referee Shahenda Saad Ali Emghrabi will be one of the six match officials from other zones invited to officiate during the CECAFA Women’s Champions League 2022 slated for August 14-28th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Ali Emghrabi who also officiated at the recent TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022 in Morocco will also be joined by Letticia Antonella Viana (Eswatini), Antsino Twanyanyukwa (Namibia) and Cote d’Ivoire’s Zomadre Sonia Kore.

Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga who also officiated the final of the recent WAFCON 2022 and will be at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is also one of the match officials selected.

The regional tournament which will also be the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier for the zone will attract eight teams divided in two groups. The matches will be played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and the Chamazi Stadium, home of Azam FC.

Last year’s runners-up Commercial Bank of Ethiopia are placed in Group A alongside Warrior Queens (Zanzibar), FOFILA (Burundi) and AS Kigali (Rwanda), while Group B has Simba Queens (Tanzania), GRFC (Djibouti), Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan) and She Corporate (Uganda).

Auka Gecheo, the Executive Director of CECAFA says having top referees from other Zones coming to officiate in the CECAFA tournament is a great idea. “We shall also have our referees go and officiate in other Zones so that they keep improving,” says Gecheo.
