Djibouti in the final of Arab women’s youth tourney
In an unprecedented move, Djibouti’s women’s national U 17 football squad is now in the final of Pan Arab women’s youth tourney which is under way in the Qatari capital of Doha.
The young girls kicked Palestine out of the competition after defeating them by 1-0 in the semifinal match on Saturday evening.
Both sides made a very competitive exhibition as they were all committed to making their way into the final and as a result the first half of the match ended in 0-0.
However, Djibouti’s side realized their golden goal when Fahima Mahmoud Ahmed (number 7) scored the winning goal for her nation in the 70th minute of the match, leaving Palestine in a shocking moment.
Djibouti will face Lebanon in the final match on Monday 23nd of February. Lebanon also confirmed their position in the final when they defeated Algeria by 1-0 on Saturday.
This is Djibouti’s first major approach in its football history and it comes after two years of marathon football development programs invented by President Souleiman Hassan Waberi who since resuming the leadership on 10th of November 2012 implemented more than a dozen development programs including the revival of women’s football in the country and as well as the creation of beach soccer in Djibouti.
