Uganda Cubs to open against Burundi

Defending champions Uganda will open against Burundi in the qualifiers of the TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the CECAFA Zone on Monday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In the new draw conducted by the CECAFA Executive Director, Auka Gecheo on Sunday morning at the Jupiter Hotel, Uganda and Burundi were drawn to kcik start action in Group B at the Abebe Bikila Stadium.

The second match on Monday will see hosts Ethiopia battle Somalia in a Group A match.

“We are going to have the best two teams from each group qualify for the semi finals and later get straight into the final,” added Gecheo. The qualifier which kicks off on October 3rd will now climax on October 15th.

The winners and runners-up will qualify to represent the region in the U-17 AFCON 2023 in Algeria.

Group A: Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania

Group B: Uganda, Burundi, South Sudan
