Day 4: Tanzania edge Senegal to retain CAF African Schools Football Championship

Tanzania retained the Boys category of the CAF African Schools Football Championship on Saturday.

The Tanzanian side who had ejected hosts Ghana at the semi-final stage on Friday stopped Senegal in the final played at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday in Accra, Ghana.

After ending goalless in the allotted time, Tanzania went on to defeat Senegal 3-2 on penalties to successfully defend their crown. For the third position Ghana defeated Uganda 2-1

In the Girls category the hosts Ghana proved a tactically superior side scoring two second half goals to beat Uganda 2-0 in the final. South Africa also finished third in the Girls category after stopping Morocco 2-1.

The Awards ceremony was graced by the CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, his Executive Members and the President of Ghana, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.

The 4-Day competition for U-15s supported by the Motsepe Foundation and TotalEnergies saw the champions in each category receive cheques of US$300,000, the runners-up US$200,000, and third placed US$150,000 for third place.

The competition attracted teams from Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, Algeria, Tanzania, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Morocco, Benin, Malawi and The Gambia.

Player of the Tournament: Jennifer Awuku (Ghana)

Fair Play Team: Morocco 

BOYS:

Top Scorer: John Andor (Ghana), Ingatus Cyril Acquah Hagan (Ghana)

Player of the Tournament: Souleymane Commissaire Faye 

Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Rajabu Manyelezi (Tanzania)
