The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has maintained it’s schedule despite fears after the Coronavirus (COVID -19) outbreak across the world. CAF issued a communication on Wednesday making it clear that although the schedule will go on, they are monitoring the situation closely.

“CAF wishes to inform Member Associations and the entire African football family that we are closely monitoring the evolution of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) around the world and in particular the African continent. According to World Health Organization (WHO), no African country till date has been declared a high risk,” said the CAF communication.

The African Football body said consequently it has decided to maintain the schedule of all competitions. “CAF has been informed of the restrictive measures taken by the authorities of some Member Associations and is in contact to find solutions on a case-by-case basis, with the option of the organization of matches behind closed doors,” added CAF.

In the next two weeks the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying ties are meant to be played and later the 2020 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cameroon.

CAF has made it clear that the 2020 CHAN will also go on as planned for April 4-25th in Cameroon. A delegation from the CAF Medical Committee is scheduled to visit Cameroon from March 14-15 to assess all the preventive measures taken by the Local Organizing Committee.
