Champions Uganda to face Ethiopia in U-20 AFCON qualifiers

Defending champions Uganda have been drawn to face Ethiopia and Tanzania in the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone.

In the draw conducted on Tuesday in Nairobi, Kenya by the CECAFA Executive Director, Auka Gecheo, the three teams were placed in Group B.

The qualifiers will be played in Sudan between October 28th to November 11th, 2022. Initially the tournament was meant to be played between October 22nd to November 3rd.

While Group A will be based at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman, Group A that has hosts Sudan, Burundi, South Sudan and Djibouti will be based at the El Obeid Stadium.

“We are confident the qualifiers will be successful because the hosts Sudan Football Association have made it clear they are prepared to host a good tournament,” added Gecheo

The best two teams from each group will qualifier for the semi finals, while the two teams that make it to the final will automatically qualify for the U-20 AFCON 2023 to take place in Egypt.
