CECAFA Women’s Cup: Kenya through to semis, as Uganda hammer Zanzibar

Kenya’s Harambee Starlets have booked their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing CECAFA Women’s championship in Uganda after routing rivals of Burundi 4-0 on Tuesday.

Okoth Nedy Atieno [No 9], Mbeyu Esse Akida [No 14] and Kinuthia Mary Wanjiku [No 4], scored the goals for Kenya. Striker Atieno netted her two goals in either halves of the match.

Tuesday’s victory corresponds a lot to the Kenyan women as they made their way to the semi-finals with 6 points so far.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s Crested Cranes have recovered from the recent 4-0 loss to Kenya, as they hammered Zanzibar 9 goals to nothing on Tuesday. The Ugandans were unable to score before Hasifa Nassuna scored the first goal from a penalty kick in the 41st minute of the match.

Hasifa Nassuna [No 10] scored four goals for the Crested Cranes, whilst other goals were bagged by Ikwaput Fazirah [5], Nambirige Christine [No 7] and Laki Otandeka [No 9]

On Wednesday, Burundi will clash Ethiopia who will play their first match in the tournament, while the Burundians will be seeking their second victory.
