CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers postponed
The CECAFA Zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers have been postponed.
Auka Gecheo, the Executive Director of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) announced the development on Tuesday.
“After consultations, it has been decided that the WCL qualifiers slated for 17th July to 1st August in Nairobi, will not take place as scheduled,” said Gecheo who added that a new date will be announced.
Last week the draw CECAFA Zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers, but the the Federation of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) went ahead to withdraw Rwanda’s Women’s Champions Scandinavia WFC citing COVID-19 challenges on-going in Rwanda.
The Rwanda team had been drawn in Group C alongside FAD (Djibouti) and Vihiga Queens (Kenya). The U-23 team that has been training for the last two weeks was also set to feature in the Challenge Cup to take place.
The other teams that qualified to play in the qualifiers include; Lady Doves WFC (Uganda), PVP Fc (Burundi), Simba Queens (Tanzania), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan) and New Generations FC (Zanzibar).
