The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) has announced a change in dates when the CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship will take place in Nairobi, Kenya.

Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director announced on Thursday that following a meeting with Football Kenya Federation (FKF), they have decided to push the start of the championship by three weeks.

The event which was scheduled to start on June 3rd will now take place between June 24th to  July 8th, 2023 in the Kenyan capital.

“We are confident that pushing the start of the Championship forward will give Member Associations enough time to prepare their teams for the season opening tournament on the CECAFA calendar,” added Gecheo.

Kenya, who last hosted a CECAFA tournament in 2021, also won the bid to host the 2023 CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship slated for November 25th to December 9th.

Uganda will host the CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship and the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifiers, while Ethiopia will host the CECAFA U-23 Championship. Rwanda accepted to host the Pan African Schools Championship.

CECAFA will also announce the hosts for the Kagame Cup at a later stage. Sudan was meant to host the Kagame Cup, but the political tension in the country has forced the regional body to look for another Member Association that will be ready to host.
