CECAFA to conduct mini draw for zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers
The Council of the East and central African Football (CECAFA) will today morning at 10am conduct a mini-draw for the Zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
Eight teams will play in the zonal qualifiers slated for August 28th to September 9th in Nairobi, Kenya.
In July CECAFA conducted the draw with nine teams, but Rwanda’s Scandinavian WFC withdrew leaving Group C with two teams.
Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given them the go ahead to have the mini draw made so that the two teams FAD WFC (Djibouti) and Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC that were left in Group C are placed in Group A and B.
“We shall therefore have two groups with four teams in each,’ confirmed Auka Gecheo. He also confirmed that the qualifiers will be played at the Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
Already Group A has Lady Doves (Uganda), PVP FC (Burundi), Simba Queens (Tanzania), while Group B has Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia), Yei Joint FC (South Sudan) and New Generation (Zanzibar).
The winner from the CECAFA qualifiers will join the other seven to battle in the 2021 TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League to held in Egypt.
