CECAFA Kagame Cup: Achai scores lone goal as KCCA FC defeat KMKM

Uganda’s KCCA FC have picked their first win at the on-going CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.

The defending champions who lost 2-0 in their opening match to Azam FC came back strongly today to defeat KMKM SC (Zanzibar) 1-0 in a Group B match played at the Azam Complex, Chamzi.

Herbert Achai netted the lone goal after 20 minutes when he placed the ball in a tight corner past KMKM SC’s goalkeeper Nassor Nassor Abdulla.

Brian Majwega who had a good match played in a through ball before he was brought down and Achai made good use of the pass and scored.

KMKM SC’s Aboul Rahman Othman Ali had his shot saved earlier. Ashraf Mugume also had his well taken header saved by the KMKM SC goalkeeper.

In the second half the Zanzibar Premier League champions dictated the pace of the match, but still failed to fine the goals. Substitute Said Khalid Hilali had two chances to score, but missed the target. KCCA FC captain Julius Poloto also had his header hit the post before bouncing back.

The match ended with three KCCA FC players being cautioned, while KMKM SC had one player. The win takes KCCA FC to second place behind Azam FC who have already booked a place in the semi final stage.

“I am not happy that we continue to miss so many scoring chances. We need to make sure we perform well in the last group game against the team from Burundi,” said KCCA FC coach Morley Byekwaso.

Ali Vuai Shein, the KMKM Sc coach said that his team was not lucky with the finishing. “We need to learn to take our chances,” added the coach.
