Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC will be all out to try and defend the regional CECAFA Kagame Club Championship title when they face KCCA FC in the final on Sunday evening at the Kigali Stadium, Nyamirambo.
Although the Ugandan side brushed a side Azam FC 1-0 in the group stage, the Tanzanian outfit has continued to improve in their following games.
To reach the final KCCA FC ejected Zambia’s Green Eagles 4-3, while Azam won 5-4 on penalties against guest side AS Maniema from the Democratic Republic of Congo in the semi finals.
Going into the final KCCA FC are the only team in the tournament yet to suffer defeat. Coach Mike Hillary Mutebi has made it clear that they will give it their best because the team last won the regional trophy in 1978.
“We want to re-write history for the Club and this is a good platform for the lads,” said Mutebi. KCCA FC will look to their enterprising star Allan Okello, Mike Mutyaba and Sadat Anaku to get the goals.
Although KCCA FC beat the Tanzanian side 1-0 in the preliminary stage, Azam FC are a team that has improved from every game right to the final. They will look to their key players Idd Selemani and Obrey Chirwa.
The tournament partly sponsored by Rwanda President Paul Kagame will see the winner bag US$30,000, while the runner up takes US$20,000 and the third US$10,000.
