CBE ranked top ahead of Zonal Champions League draw in Morocco

Central Bank of Ethiopia FC Women’s team are ranked top ahead of the draw for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifiers.

The draws for all the Zones will be conducted on Wednesday evening in Rabat, Morocco.

The Ethiopian Women’s Premier League champions are ranked top having finished third at the 2022 qualifiers held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Simba Queens FC, the 2022 champions who also reached the semi-final of the CAF Women’s Champions League and She Corporate FC are came second last year will miss out on the qualifiers this year having failed to impress in the Leagues in Tanzania and Uganda respectively.

Uganda is slated to host the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone from August 12-29th.

Besides Central Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) who will be ranked and seeded 1 in one of the groups, Uganda’s new champions Kampala Queens FC will top the second group.

The other teams that will participate in the CAF Women’s Champions League for the CECAFA Zone include: AS Kigali (Rwanda), Yei joint Stars (South Sudan), JKT Queens FC (Tanzania), Buja Queens FC (Burundi), Vihiga Queens (Kenya), FAD Club (Djibouti) and New Generation FC (Zanzibar).

At the CAF Women’s Champions League held last year the winners ASFAR (Morocco) bagged a cash prize of USD 400 000, while the runners-up Mamelodi Sundowns received USD 250 000. The semi-finalists received USD 200 000 each.
