Sudan’s Al Hilal could have a slim chance of squeezing through to the quarter final stage when the last Group games of the CAF Champions League are played this evening.

Al Hilal who are placed third in Group B will play away to bottom placed TP Mazembe in DR Congo, while table leaders who have already booked a place in the last eight Mamelodi Sundowns host Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.

Victory for the Sudan team away in DR Congo and defeat for CR Belouizdad will see Al Hilal make it to the quarter final stage. A draw for CR Belouizdad and a win for Al Hilal could also see the Sudanese outfit make it through. Al Hilal have 4 points after four draws and one defeat, although they have been very poor infront of goal with only one goal scored.

Al Hilal who are handled by coach Ricardo Formosinho will face TP Mazembe with motivation that they beat the same side 2-1 during the Simba Cup 2021 held in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.

Another Sudanese side Al Merreikh will also play away to DR Congo’s Vita Club in a Group A tie, while Tanzania’s Simba SC who are through to the quarters take on reigning champions Al Ahly in Cairo, Egypt.

Three teams from the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA); Simba SC, Al Hilal and Al Merreikh qualified for the Group stage of the CAF Champions League, while the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) region had Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Petro de Luanda of Angola.

The North Zone had Al Ahly, Zamalek, CR Belouizdad, Wydad AC, ES Tunis and MC Alger. Zone West A had Teugueth FC (Senegal) and TP Mazembe from Central Zone.
