CAF CONFEDERATION CUP: Tanzania’s Namungo FC advance
Tanzanian side Namungo FC have advanced to the next round of the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup after ejecting Sudan’s El Hilal Obeid.
Namungo FC qualified for the play-off round on Tuesday after holding El Hilal Obied to a 3-3 draw in the return leg played in Khartoum. They qualified on a 5-3 goal aggregate after they won the first leg 2-0.
Stephen Kwame Sey gave Namungo FC the lead after only 2 minutes before El Hilal Obeid replied with an equalizer through Musab Ahmed Aishareif Eisa on 12 minutes. Ibrahim Mohamed Ali made it 2-1 a minute later before Aishareif Eisa got his second. But Blaise Bigirimana netted the second goal for Namungo FC.
Aishareif Eisa was sent off before Edward Charles Manyama scored Namungo’s third goal after 50 minutes.
Namungo FC who are struggling in 15th place in the Vodacom Tanzania Premier League will now wait for the play-off battle where they will face one of the losing teams in the CAF Champions League.
Three other teams from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) will be in action today in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Sudan’s Al Amal Atbara are expected to play away to Salitas (Burkina Faso), while Uganda’s KCCA FC host AS Kigali (Rwanda) at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
