CAF AWARDS 2019: Samatta, Onyango nominated for African Player of the Year

Tanzania and Genk striker Mbwana Samatta and goalkeeper Denis Onyango (Uganda) are among the nominated players for the 28th edition of the CAF Awards 2019. CAF released the names of the nominees on Sunday for the annual football awards to take place on January 7th next year at the Citadel Azure, Hurghada, Egypt.

Samatta who has enjoyed good form in the season where he also guided Tanzania to the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations inn Egypt is nominated for the African Player of the Year together with Onyango  who is also nominated for the African Interclubs Player of the Year Award.

The CAF awards celebrate African footballers and officials who have distinguished themselves during 2019.

Accoring to CAF, the list of nominees is compiled by a panel of media and technical professionals. The Awards for both men and women will include; African Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Youth Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, Goal of the Year, Africa Finest XI, Federation of the Year and several new award categories which will recognise exceptional contributions to African football and inspiring individuals.

The Interclubs Player of the Year Award has been reintroduced and will be dedicated to honouring key actors in CAF’s club competitions

Uganda’s Emmanuel Okwi and Meddie Kagere (Rwanda) are also the other players nominated for African Interclubs Player of the Year Award.

The Kenyan women’s national team is also nominated for the African national team of the Year, while their coach David Ouma who has also guided the team to the Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup final to be played today is nominated for African Women’s coach of the year·
