Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre to face Zamalek

Burundi Premier League champions have qualified for the second round of the preliminary round of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Flambeau du Centre lost 2-1 away to Libya’s Al-Ittihad on Sunday, but qualified on an away goals rule after their won the first leg 1-0. The Burundi side will now face Egyptian Premier League champions Zamalek SC next month.

Uganda’s Vipers SC also booked a place in the next round after they defeated Olympic Real De Bangui 1-0 in a match played at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende. Yunus Sentamu netted the lone goal in the 18th minute to ensure the Ugandan champions sealed through 4-0 on aggregate and will face former champions TP Mazembe from DR Congo.

Tanzanian sides Young Africans SC and Simba SC also qualified for the second round. Fiston Mayele netted a hattrick as Young Africans SC, while Faridi and Aziz Ki also got their names on the score board as humbled Zalan FC (South Sudan) 5-0 to qualify on a 9-0 goal aggregate.

The Tanzania Premier League champions will now face another CECAFA team Al Hilal (Sudan) who ejected Ethiopia’s St. George FC. Maccabi Lilipo netted a late penalty to hand Al Hilal a 1-0 win against St. George in Khartoum yesterday to make sure the Sudan team qualified on an away goals rule after they lost the first leg 2-1.

Simba SC’s Moses Phiri scored twice to make sure the Tanzanian side won 2-0 against Nyasa Big Bullets FC (Malawi) to qualify on a 4-0 goal aggregate. Simba who reached the quarter final stage of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will now face Angola’s Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto.

Sudan’s Al Merreikh who ejected Arta Solar 7 from Djibouti 2-1 on aggregate will now face Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli. The Libyan side defeated KMKM SC (Zanzibar) 4-0 in Benghazi to qualify on a 6-0 goal aggregate.

Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC who failed to make it to the second round after suffering a 3-0 loss away to Tunisia’s USM Monastir. APR FC had picked a 1-0 win in the first leg.
