Burundi appoint Ndayiragije new national team coach

The Burundi Football Federation (FFB) has appointed Etienne Ndayiragije as the new national team head coach.

Ndayiragije was unveiled on Tuesday during a brief ceremony held at the Federation headquarters in Bujumbura.

The experienced former coach of the Tanzania national team signed a two year contract with the Federation. “We are happy to have Ndayiragije as the new national team coach,” said the Federation President Alexandre Muyenge.

The new coach takes over from Jimmy Ndayizege who has been in-charge of the national team for the past few years. Ndayiragije will have the huge task of guiding the national team in the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers were Burundi is currently placed second in Group C.

In the opening match Burundi drew 1-1 away to Namibia, and lost 1-0 to Cameroon in Bujumbura. Kenya who had been placed in the same group did not play when the qualifiers kicked off since they were suspended by FIFA then.

Ndayizege has also handled Vital’O in Burundi, Tanzania Premier League sides of Azam FC and Rwanda side Bugesera FC.
