Azam Football Club have qualified for the final of the 2022/2023 Tanzania FA Cup, also known as the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC).

Azam FC defeated Simba SC 2-1 in the first semi final match played at the Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium, Mtwara on Sunday.

Lusajo Mwaikenda gave Azam SC the lead after 22 minutes, but Sadio Kanoute leveled matters six minutes later.

After recess the two teams pushed forward to try and get more goals, but it was Azam FC who netted through Zimbabwean international Prince Dube after 75 minutes. Simba SC created more scoring opportunities, but failed to take them.

Kali Ongala, Azam FC’s assistant coach praised his players for the hard work. “ I thank the players for the hard work and now we must prepare for the final,” added Ongala.

Azam FC had already picked a 1-0 win and a 1-1 draw in the two Premier League matches played against Simba SC this season.

Azam FC will now wait to face the winners of the second semi final between Cup holders Young Africans SC and Singida Big Stars FC.

The match between Young Africans SC and Singida Big Stars FC was postponed to give coach Nasreddine Nabi’s team to prepare for the first leg TotalEnergies CAF Confederation semi final clash against South Africa’s Murumo Gallants FC on May 10th in Dar es Salaam.
