AS Kigali WFC ready to battle CBE – Sogonya

The head coach of AS Kigali WFC has said his team is more than ready to prove a point against Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in their last Group A match at the on-going TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier for the CECAFA Zone in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Although the two sides have already qualified for the semi final stage, they will clash this afternoon at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium to decide who tops the Group.

The coach Hamissi Sogonya told Cecafaonline that they are aware of the style of play and awareness of the Ethiopian team and know how they will handle them. “CBE are very good with the ball and play also of passing, but we know what strategy we shall use to handle them,” says Songonya.

The coach made it clear that they will have to be very organized in the defending line and also make sure they take the chances they create infront of goal. “When you face a team like CBE then all your departments must work well and we must be very disciplined,” added the AS Kigali WFC head coach.

Sogonya made it clear that they will be all out to try and stop CBE so that they can top Group A. “We target since this tournament started is to win every match,” added the AS Kigali WFC coach. The Rwanda team started their campaign with a 2-1 win against FOFILA PF (Burundi), before they stopped Warriors Queens (Zanzibar) 3-0. The Ethiopian team humbled Warriors Queens 9-0 and also defeated FOFILA PF 5-1.

But the CBE skipper and the tournament’s leading scorer Loza Abera (eight goals) has also made it clear that they are very motivated to keep performing better. “We know the Rwanda team is a strong team, but we are more than determined to get a good result,” says Abera.

On Saturday Uganda’s She Corporate defeated Garde Republicaine of Djibouti 8-0 to book a place in the semi finals. Favour Nambatya and Phiona Nabbumba netted a hattrick eachm while Joanita Ainembabazi and Jackline Nakasi also got their names on the score sheet in a Group B match played at the Azam Complex, Chamazi.

Home side Simba Queens Fc also maintained their winning run with a 4-0 victory against South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars FC in a match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. Philomena Abakah netted a brace, while Vivian Aquino Corazone and Opa Clement Tukumbuke also picked a goal each.

The semi finals will be played on Wednesday, while the play-off and final will take place on August 27th.
