Sudan Premier League side, Al Merreikh will host their first TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Group A match away in Cairo, Egypt.

Al Merreikh will host South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns FC on February 19th at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.

The development comes because Al Merreikh’s stadium in Khartoum is still undergoing renovation.

Coach Lee Clark said although they are going to play a strong side, they are hopeful to make a good start in the group stage campaign. “We know Sundowns are an experienced team and we know how we shall handle them,” said Clark.

Mamelodi Sundowns, winners of the 2016 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League kick started the group stage with a 1-0 win against another Sudanese side Al Hilal SC last weekend.

Al Hilal will host the reigning African champions Al Ahly on February 18th at the newly renovated Al Hilal Stadium in Khartoum.
