Al Merreikh humble Zanaco 3-0 in TotalEnergies CAF Champions League

Sudan Premier League champions Al Merreikh netted second half goals to defeat Zanaco 3-0 in 2nd preliminary round stage first leg match of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Tony Edjomariegwe gave Al Merreikh the lead after 49 minutes in a match played at the Al Salam Stadium on Saturday night.

Ramadan Ajab and substitute Wagdi Awad added two more goals, while the Zambian side failed to score.

Earlier kenya’s Tusker FC suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Egyptian giants Zamalek in a match played at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

Achraf Bencharki dribbled past the Tusker defenders to score after 47 minutes. Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC also settled for a 1-1 draw against Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia) in a match played in Kigali.

In some of the other matches played Horoya FC (Guinea) picked a 1-0 win away to Stade Malien, while Ama Zulu (South Africa) and TP Mazembe settled for a goalless draw.

Today Sudan side Al Hilal will play away to Rivers United FC in the Nigerian town of Port Harcourt, while the 2020/2021 quarter finalists Simba SC (Tanzania) also play away to Jwaneng Galaxy FC in Botswana.
