Sudan’s Al Hilal SC have held Al Ahly to a goalless draw in a Group A TotalEnergies CAF Champions League match played in Khartoum this evening.

Although the reigning African champions Al Ahly dominated play, the home side had more shots (15 shots) at goal in a match played at the Al Hilal Stadium.

The home side had the best chance when Eid Mugadam all alone shot straight into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Al Ahly, fresh from finishing third at the FIFA Club World Cup 2022 in Abu Dhabi few days ago failed to find their touch in-front of goal against a defensively organized Sudanese side. Mohamed Hany and Mohamed Sherif had some good chances for Al Ahly, but failed to make them count.

“We created several scoring opportunities, but failed to take our chances. But we are also glad that we managed to get a point against African champions,” said Al Hilal head coach Joao Mota after the match.

Al Hilal kick started the group stage campaign with a 1-0 defeat away to Memelodi Sundowns last weekend in South Africa.

Tomorrow another team from the CECAFA region Al Merreikh (Sudan) will host South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns FC in a match to be played at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

The Sudan Premier League defending champions Al Merreikh are unable to play at home because their Stadium is undergoing renovation.
