Al Hilal, Al Merreikh book second preliminary round places

Sudan’s Premier League sides Al Hilal and Al Merreikh have qualified for the second preliminary round of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Al Hilal battled to a 1-1 draw against Ethiopia’s Fasil Kenema SC to qualify on an away goals advantage since they picked a 2-2 away draw in Ethiopia.

At the Shikan Castle in El Obied, North Kurdufan State, Al Merreikh needed a late goal to eliminate Uganda’s Express FC. Ahmed Hamid Al-Tash netted the lone goal to ensure the Sudan side qualified 2-2 on a better away goal’s rule.

Regular campaigners in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Al Merreikh will now face Zambia’s Zanaco in the next round while Al Hilal battle Rivers United (Nigeria).

Rivers United eliminated Young Africans SC (Tanzania) 2-0 on aggregate. Zanzibar’s KMKM SC who lost the first leg 2-0 at home lost 3-0 away to Al -Attihad of Libya in a match played in Sfax, Tunisia.

Kenya’s Tusker FC who saw off Arta Solar 7 (Djibouti) will now face Zamalek, while APR (Rwanda) face Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive Du Sahel.

Tanzania’s Simba SC who reached the quarter final stage in the 2020/2021 season will now face Jwaneng Galaxy FC (Botswana).

The first leg of the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League will take place between October 15-17th, while the return legs take place between October 22-24th.
