AFCON U-20 QUALIFIERS: Uganda Hippos humble Burundi 6-1

Uganda Hippos showed good form winning 6-1 against Burundi at the on-going 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) U-20 qualifiers in Tanzania.

The win sent Uganda top of the log with 4 points before Burundi face South Sudan on November 27th in the last Group B match.

Ivan Bogere who did not start in the goalless draw against South Sudan gave Uganda Hippos the lead after 42 minutes, before Najib Iga converted a penalty to make it 2-0 after just two minutes.

After the interval the Burundi team tried to push forward, but were again out numbered in the midfield before  Bogere made it 3-0 on 52 minutes. Isma Mugulusi later netted two goals, while Joseph Kizza also had one to his name.

Burundi pulled one goal back through Alfred Nkurunziza after the referee Ahmed Hassan Hussein from Somalia had showed two added minutes.

“I am glad my players responded well today and scored many goals,” said Morley Byekwaso, Uganda Hippos coach after the match.

Sudan will later this afternoon battle Ethiopia in a Group C match later at the same Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha. Ethiopia lost 3-0 to Kenya in their opening match.
