AFCON U-17 QUALIFIERS: South Sudan disqualified after 4 players fail MRI test

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has confirmed that the South Sudan team has been disqualified from the Zonal Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) U-17 qualifiers.

South Sudan’s U-17 team was disqualified after 4 players failed the Magnetic Resonance Imagining (MRI) test. According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rules, a team if disqualified if just one or more of the players fails the test that helps to determine age.

Auka Gecheo, the Cecafa Executive Director confirmed the development. “Yes some of their players failed the test,” said Auka.

South Sudan was meant to start their campaign against Uganda Cubs in the opening match at the Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu District today. The Zonal qualifiers will now have six teams battling for the two slots.

The six teams that remain in the competition include; Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Djibouti). The best two teams will qualify for the Afcon U-17 to take place next year between March 13-31 in Morocco.
